J. Jonah Jameson is the tough, no-nonsense editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle. Played by J.K. Simmons, Jameson buys Spider-Man pictures from Parker, not knowing that Parker and Spider-Man are one and the same. After the Green Goblin attacks him hoping to find out who takes the pictures of the Web-Slinger, Jameson begins to publish that the Goblin and Spider-Man are in cahoots, leading to a negative perception of the hero from the city he’s trying to defend. While Jameson later warms up to the idea of Spider-Man being a hero, he is too proud to recant his previous assertion.

When amateur photographer Eddie Brock shows up at the Bugle selling pictures of Spider-Man, Jameson has Parker and Brock compete for the staff position Parker proves that Brock faked his pictures leading to the end of his career. While Jameson may seem like a grumpy old man, he cares about his city and those he works with.
